The Human Resistance is not a formally organized group. The series depicts chaotic, scattered human reactions to the sudden emergence of demons rather than a coordinated resistance movement. Ryo Asuka operates independently, using his knowledge and resources for his own enigmatic purposes, but he does not lead or command any human resistance. Ordinary humans fight demons with whatever weapons they can find, often forming small, temporary alliances. The resistance's actions are marked by desperation and internal conflict, with no overarching strategy or central figure like Ryo guiding them. The group's existence is defined by its fragmentation, not by unity under a single leader.

In Their Own Story

In Metaphor: ReFantazio, Louis is first seen assassinating the addled king of the United Kingdom of Euchronia. The protagonist, named Will, alongside Grius and Gallica, are dispatched to kill him to break a curse on the prince, believed to have been cursed by Louis. During the royal funeral, Grius attempts to assassinate Louis but is prevented by the king's magic, allowing Louis to kill Grius. The king's magic then declares that whomever shall take the throne must be supported by the general public. Will and his allies seek to gain Louis' favor to get close to him and find a way to break the curse without killing him. After failing, they seek a spear that could kill him without incurring the king's magic. They initially mortally wound him, but Zorba, one of Louis' allies who can reanimate the dead, saves his life and uses the spear to kill Forden. Louis later manipulates Will into a duel in Grand Trad, using magic to warp him into a human in front of the crowd, causing Will's popularity to plummet. Louis then takes the Royal Sceptre, an object reserved for the future leader. After Will fuses with the prince, they encounter Louis in the Royal Palace, where Louis offers for the protagonist to join him. Will refuses, and Louis creates a magla-infused star with the Royal Sceptre. After Will and his allies enter the star and face Louis, he uses the Royal Sceptre's power to manifest his own Archetype, the Archdemon, but is defeated. Louis escapes through his skyrunner, Charadrius, and after Will's allies sacrifice themselves to hold off humans, confronts Will once more. Louis attempts to turn Will into a human, but Will rips out his own heart, killing him. Will is saved by More and returns to life. In the final confrontation, Louis succumbs to his own anxiety and transforms into a human merged with the Charadrius; after Will and his allies destroy his human form's three masks, revealing Louis' twisted face, they defeat him. Louis makes a last-ditch attempt to destroy the group by inflicting them with endless magla, but Will, now infused with the power of kings, destroys him and wins the Tournament for the Throne.
